Service Implementation Framework in Manufacturing Firms: A Case Study

The culture and the operational methods of service management have become a formidable competitive weapon even for manufacturing firms. The term "service factory" has been proposed for identifying that particular integration of products and services, achieved by the excellent manufacturing firm, where "service is a multidimensional concept". The creation of a service factory necessarily implies a radical change in the operational and organizational characteristics of the firm. In order to support manufacturing firms in adopting a service strategy, it is relevant on the one hand to identify the bundle of services which have to be provided for the customers and, on the other hand, to understand the implications for firm management model. As regards the first point, the paper proposes a framework which classifies the services along with two dimensions: Time-dimension and target-dimension. The proposed framework is of interest for manufacturing firms because it allows a better recognition of services that are more perceptible for the customers. In the second part of the paper, authors discuss the implications of a service strategy adoption on the management model of manufacturing firms. In order to carry out this analysis, authors propose a model that combines four service dimensions with three decision-making categories (Organization, Methodologies and Technologies). In the end, the proposed framework has been applied in a sample of Italian hot water heater manufacturers and a case study analysis has been carried out.

Stability Analysis for Grain Yield and Micronutrients in Bread Wheat Genotypes

This study was carried out in order to determine stability of some traits like plant height, days to heading, 1000-grain weight, grain Zinc and Iron concentrations and grain yield of fifty bread wheat genotypes. The experiment was conducted at three environmental conditions during 2015-2016 using randomized block design with two replicates. For all the traits investigated in this study, component of variation due to environment was larger than the component of variation due to genotype and G x E interaction. Different traits like plant height, days to heading, thousand grain weight, grain iron and zinc concentrations and grain yield showed range from 92.8 to 107.1 cm, from 91 to 101 days, from 32.0 to 46.1 g, from 37.5 to 45.7 ppm, from 30.2 to 41.9 ppm and from 2.1 to 3.3 kg, respectively in three environments. Two stability parameters were used to develop and evaluation of stable genotypes. The study of genotypic stability showed that the adaptation ability of the 8 genotypes (403, 413, 416, 428, 430, 435, 440 and 449) for grain Fe concentration and 2 genotypes (410 and 431) for grain Zn concentration are relatively high and they are more stable than the other genotypes. Also, genotype number 440 for grain Fe concentration, genotypes 410 and 431 for grain Zn concentration and genotypes 420 and 425 for grain yield had high mean value compared with mean value of check genotype 401 as well as high stability.

Valorization of Orange Zest by Lactic Fermentation to Increase the Nutritional Value of Millet Products in Côte d'Ivoire

In order to exploit and control the technological properties for transformation of substrates tropical and other waste of household (orange Zest) in a food improved, a study of the technological properties of Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus coprophilus isolated from grape must and sour of the tchapalo has been undertaken. It clear from this study that these two LAB have exercised an antibacterial activity on Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which could be related to the inhibitory effect of bacteriocins. They have owned a good capacity acidifier in the sprouted millet extract and orange zest extract with about a rate acidification of 4% after 24 hours (h) of fermentation. Similarly, these lactic strains have a good rate saccharification in the orange zest extract with a maximum of 38.57 ± 6.77% for L. plantarum and 32.51 ± 9.53% for L. coprophilus after 16 h of fermentation. Vitamin C synthesis was more remarkable in the orange zest extract than in the sprouted millet extract.

Budget Evaluation against Fiscal Rules: The Case of Nigeria Using a Fiscal Rascality Index™

This study investigated if Nigeria’s economic managers’ complied with expenditure budgeting and disclosure laws as contained in the Fiscal Responsibility Act. For the purpose of this analysis, an index of fiscal rascality was used to establish evidence of adherence (or non-adherence) of Nigeria’s national budgets to constituted fiscal rules. The result revealed that there existed unabated appetites for perennial budgeting rascality in Nigeria. The findings however show that democracy in Nigeria is yet to respect the rule of law as it concerns managing Nigeria’s economy through fiscal rules. Consequently, it recommended that the legislative arm of government must enforce its powers by duly recommending economic managers who flout fiscal rules for prosecution as prescribed by the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

Effect of Relative Storability on Primed Seed Lots of Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.)

The present research was carried out on two genotypes of fenugreek viz. HM-57 and HM-103 with two seed lots of each genotype including fresh and one year old seed lot were stored under ambient condition and the observations were recorded at the interval of 3 months. In this experiment, both seed lots of two genotypes were tested for various physiological and biochemical basis for loss in viability and vigour. The hydration (6 h) and dehydration at room temperature followed by dry dressing with thiram (0.25%) recorded significantly maximum germination over the treatments throughout the storage period in both varieties and seed lots showed higher improvement in all laboratory and field parameters followed by hydration-dehydration treatment.  Lot (L2) seeds showed better improvements over lot (L1) for standard germination, root length, shoot length, vigour indices, viability, Electrical conductivity. Whereas L1 seed lots showed better improvement in test weight, seed density, seedling dry weight. The variety HM-57 showed higher improvement in test weight, seed density, standard germination, root length, vigour index-I, whereas HM-103 showed higher improvement in shoot length, seedling dry weight, vigour index-II.
